So, what’s zhug?

A little heat.
A whole lot of herb appeal.

Meet zhug (say “zhoog”): a bold, spicy herb sauce with Yemeni roots. Think fresh herbs, chilies, garlic, and spices. It brings spoonable, herby heat to the meals you already love. A different flavor, in a very familiar role.

The idea behind Zhugie

Big flavor.
Open invitation.

We’re building Zhugie around a simple idea: everyday food deserves a little excitement.

Zhug has a story that begins in Yemen. Our part is an invitation to get to know it—and find a place for it in your own kitchen, one delicious spoonful at a time.

A few good questions

Let’s clear
the table.

Curious is a good place to start.

How do you say “zhug”?

Say “zhoog,” with the “oo” sound in “food.” You may also see it written as schug, skhug, or s’hug.

How spicy is it?

Zhug is known for its chili heat and fragrant herbs. Zhugie’s final heat level is still being confirmed, and we’ll share a clear description before orders open.

What’s in the jar?

We’re developing our take on green zhug with fresh herbs and fermented malagueta peppers. The recipe, fermentation process, full ingredients, and allergen information will be confirmed before orders open. The images show a packaging and serving concept.

What should I put it on?

Use it instead of hot sauce on eggs, salsa on tacos, pesto in a sandwich, or chimichurri on grilled vegetables. It has its own spicy, herby flavor, so start with half a teaspoon, taste, and add more. Swirl it into hummus or yogurt for a dip.

How do I store it, and how long does it last?

We’re developing Zhugie as a refrigerated sauce. The finished recipe, storage instructions, and shelf life still need to be confirmed and will be printed on the label before orders open.

How do I get the first batch?

Sign up with your email. We’ll let you know when our first batch is ready and share the price and pickup details. Space is limited. No purchase is necessary and no commitment is required. Joining the list doesn’t place an order or reserve a jar.

When and where will it be available?

We’re planning to start with local pickup in New York. The date, location, jar size, and final price are still being worked out. We’ll share those details with the first-batch list when they’re confirmed.
